Spyro is the titular character, and one of the main 32 playable Skylanders in the spin-off Spyro game, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, and will later appear in Skylanders: Giants. He has a Dark and a Legendary counterpart.
Spyro is a courageous young dragon with a headstrong attitude. Even though he is young at heart, he has great knowledge over the lands he protects in Skylands more than any other Skylander, evolving into one of Skylands' most valued protectors committed to defending his world from evil. Spyro is also good friends with Gill Grunt and Trigger Happy, whom he refers to as 'Gill' and 'Trigg' (in the Beginning advertisement trailer).
Spyro is also one of the few characters who is leader-like, one of them being Master Eon. During some occasions, he assumes the role as leader of the Skylanders, most likely as Eon's second in command.
Abilities
Being a purple dragon, Spyro has the ability to harness the power of the other elements, though he prefers to master fire. He can also combine the powers of The Darkness with his own to become Dark Spyro. Using his horns, and infusing them with the element of fire, Spyro can charge at his enemies and knock down obstacles.
Being a dragon, Spyro also has the ability to fly.
In gameplay terms, Spyro is a versatile character, being both effective at close range combat with his Charge and Earth Pound attacks, and capable at mid and long-range combat with his Flameballs. He is notably one of the fastest and most agile Skylander characters in the game, especially when taking into account his Flight and Charge abilities. His upgrade paths either let him specialize in large area of effect damage with his Flameball's firebreath, or adding additional strength to his Charge.

Biography
Spyro hails from a rare line of magical purple dragons that come from a faraway land few have ever traveled. He's fearless and brave; a strong-willed dragon who is young at heart and a true hero dedicated to defending Skylands from all things evil. He has a remarkable knowledge over the lands he protects... more so than any other Skylander. It's been said that the Scrolls of the Ancients mention Spyro prominently -- the old Portal Masters having chronicled his many exciting adventures and heroic deeds. Finally, it was Master Eon himself who reached out and invited him to join the Skylanders. Now calling Skylands his home, Spyro remains one of its most valued protectors, with evil facing a new enemy and the Skylanders gaining a valued ally.
It was Spyro who defeated Cynder when she was spreading fear throughout Skylands, freeing her from the control of Malefor, the Undead Dragon King. He was also the one who inspired Lightning Rod to become a Skylander after telling the storm giant stories of his dangerous adventures and faraway places in Skylands.
Role
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
Spyro and Trigger Happy were present with their leader, Master Eon, when Kaos and The Darkness approached. When Kaos summoned his minions to destroy the Core of Light, Spyro was the first to charge into battle before the other Skylanders, taking out several red Cyclops Choppers with his horns before continuing the battle airborne. He is seen during the fight flying in the background while being chased down by a Cyclops Mammoth. Despite their best efforts however, Kaos destroyed the Core of Light using his Hydra, and Spyro, along with the other Skylanders, were banished from their world to Earth, where they were turned into toys as a result of that world having no magic, waiting for the new Portal Master to help them save Skylands.
After Kaos was defeated, Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Trigger Happy were the only Skylanders present at the Ruins with Flynn, Cali, Hugo, and Master Eon, listening to Kaos make idle threats in his temporary prison. The three Skylanders all shared a knowing glance to one another, as Kaos rambled on vowing that he'll keep returning until Skylands was his if he was to be banished to the Outlands again. Instead, Kaos was banished to Earth where he was turned into a toy, and shortly after his departure, Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Trigger Happy celebrated their victory together.
Skylanders: The Beginning
In this short, story-based trailer, Spyro was with his friend, Gill Grunt, when Kaos and his army approached Skylands in the form of evil storm clouds, and they both hurried to the Core of Light to get the other Skylanders together. As the other Skylanders arrived, Spyro informs them of Kaos returning to destroy Skylands and soon leads the heroes into battle against Kaos' army to teach him a little lesson. Spyro dives into battle by breathing flames and blasting fireballs wildly, burning several enemies in his wake. Although the Skylanders put up a good fight, Kaos' army greatly outnumbered them and overpowered the heroes, allowing Kaos to defeat the Skylanders. Pinned down by Kaos' minions, both Spyro and Gill Grunt look on in horror as Kaos destroys the Core of Light; its destruction blowing Spyro and all of the other Skylanders out of Skylands and into the void of space. As they were flying through space, Spyro soon became tiny and frozen as toys upon entering Earth's atmosphere.
A human boy discovers Spyro's toy form after he crashlands nearby and takes him to his home. Spyro regains consciousness and finds himself in the hands of the human boy, who had also recovered the other Skylanders, including Spyro's friends, Gill Grunt and Trigger Happy. Spyro, Trigger Happy, and Gill Grunt then discover that they got a Portal of Power that they can use to get back to Skylands. The human boy places Spyro on the Portal, transportng the purple dragon into the game of Skylanders and beginning his quest to save Skylands from Kaos with Gill Grunt cheering him on. At Sky Schooner Docks, Spyro is seen attacking two Drow Spearmen and two Drow Witches with his Flameballs attack before charging towards the screen...
